It's National Toasted Marshmallow Day!

It’s National Toasted Marshmallow Day! With summer almost over, tonight is the perfect time to host a campfire for some old fashioned marshmallow toasting.

The history of marshmallows dates all the way back to ancient Egypt. Pharaohs used to eat the sweet extract that comes from squeezing mallow plants.  It wasn't until the 19th century that marshmallows evolved to become the delicious treats we know and love today.  Gooey and sugary, marshmallows are great ways to end the summer.  So grab a stick and a bag of marshmallows and head outside to toast some marshmallows.  And whether you like them lightly toasted or charred beyond recognition, gather family and friends and indulge in some smores. After all, summer won't be here much longer!

"National toasted marshmallow day..." lol...who KNEW!? I had three grandchildren with me here in Nova Scotia for eight weeks this summer, and have some wonderful photos of them roasting and eating s'mores. Thanks for that lovely memory, and thank you SO MUCH for your kind comment on my blog this morning!

Oh, YUM...a perfectly good reason to fire up the grill! When I was a kid and we got a craving for toasted marshmallows, my mom would turn the stove on high, we'd skewer a marshmallow and toast them over the electric burner. It worked!

I've been on a toasted marshmallow kick lately. I think it has something to do with those giant roasting marshmallows that the stores are carrying now. They are fab!
